What to expect at Meeting
Someone will be at the door to greet you and direct you to the room in which our Meeting is being held. Children are welcome to attend - we have a few in regular attendance, and their presence is a delight. When they cannot sit quietly any longer, they can be taken to a different room, and we are presently contemplating the organization of First Day School to provide more direct ministry to these small people.
Our weekly Meeting has several components, described below:
Silent Worship with Vocal Ministry
Waiting upon God in silent expectation and prayer is the basis of our meeting for worship. The silence is not absolute, however. Vocal ministry arises out of a leading that is felt in the silence so strongly that it cannot be ignored. It should be delivered with as few words as possible, yet as many as necessary, and preceded and followed by silence. It is important to keep in mind that Meeting for Worship is not a discussion group. No Friend should come to meeting for worship with an intention to speak or not to speak.
Worship Sharing
Towards the end of the meeting, Worship Sharing will be announced. At this time, still in a worshipful manner, those present may share meaningful comments or observations from their day to day experiences that reflect the spirit of the Meeting. Meeting is concluded when everyone rises and holds hands with their neighbours for a moment.
Introductions and Check-In
After the meeting has concluded, those present are invited to introduce themselves. After giving names (first and last names, following Quaker tradition), Friends are invited add a brief sentence or two about how their week has gone, although this is neither expected nor required.
